The Original Madras Trading Company was founded by Ranjit Shah after emigrating to New York from Chennai (formerly Madras) in the early 70s.

Setting up business in the cloth district, Shah offered the original ‘Madras’ cloth from his hometown to a respected clientele of “All-American” retailers, such as Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers & J.Crew among notable others. 

Since 2020, The OMTC under the steerage of Ranjit’s Grandson Prasan has been offering their own line of of clothing using the hand-loomed madras the company is so well knows for. Looked after by one master weaver from start to finish, the process in intricate and time consuming, taking 2-3 hours weave one meter of fabric.

This traditional method of weaving is true Madras, and the finished product is superior in every-way to any madras cloth woven on contemporary machines.

The Draw-String Short is all woven, cut and sewn in-house. Lightweight and easy wearing, the Olive Chambray short is a perfect beach short, even if your in town and dreaming of a sun-kissed shore.

Thigh length, with a  zip-fly and buttoned draw-string waist, two hand pockets and two buttoned rear pockets.
